Jessica Simpson engaged to ex-NFL player

Ten days after ex-husband Nick Lachey announced his engagement, singer and fashion entrepreneur Jessica Simpson revealed that she's also getting hitched, to her boyfriend of six months, former NFL pro Eric Johnson.

"Yes, we are excited to confirm that they are engaged!" her representative exclaimed in a statement Sunday.

Simpson 30, was seen Saturday with a large ring on her left hand at a promotional appearance for her clothing line at the Dillard's department store in the Oak Park Mall in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park, Kan. People magazine described it as a Neil Lane engagement ring with a central ruby flanked by two diamonds.

"She was in a really good mood," a person at the store told the magazine. "She was very friendly and sweet. She signed autographs and seemed to have a great time."

Lachey and Simpson were divorced in 2006. She and Johnson began dating in May, though word did not get out until early July. Since then, the two have had a highly public relationship with a slew of Simpson Twitter posts, including one in July with a photo of her and Johnson kissing, captioned, "Romance 101..getting kissed by my Yalie . . . me not lookin' so smart . . . :) but YUM!" As of last night, however, she had not tweeted about the engagement.

Yale grad Johnson, 31, played tight end for the San Francisco 49ers and the New Orleans Saints from 2001 to 2007.

Simpson, who has not had a gold record or top-40 hit since "A Public Affair" in 2006, told People magazine recently that she and Johnson planned to be in New York City over Thanksgiving.

"I'm gonna be on a [Macy's parade] float," she said. "It's not always the best way to spend a Thanksgiving, but it's a great way to celebrate."
