Justin Bieber turns self in on Toronto assault charges, pleads not guilty in Florida DUI arrest

Justin Bieber turned himself in to Toronto police Wednesday evening to face assault charges stemming from an incident with a limousine driver in that city a month ago.

Escorted from an SUV by a phalanx of police at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Canadian pop star presented himself at the 52 Division station, where a crush of screaming fans had been waiting. The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. said that according to police sources he was being charged and not simply questioned.

Police responded to the area of Dundas Street West and University Avenue in Toronto on Dec. 29 to investigate an assault complaint involving either Bieber or a member of his entourage.

The "Boyfriend" singer had attended a Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game at the city's Air Canada Centre that night.

"The driver for the limo is making allegations," Constable Victor Kwong said at the time. "We don't know how many were in the limo at this time and we are still working on the investigation."

Bieber was born in London, Ont., and raised in nearby Stratford.

Also Wednesday, Bieber's attorney, Mark Shapiro, entered a not guilty plea for the singer in Miami-Dade County, Florida, in connection with charges of DUI, resisting arrest and driving with an expired license, The Associated Press reported. Bieber's arraignment is set for Feb. 14. Florida law does not require the defendant to be present, and Shaprio told AP no decision has been made on whether Bieber will attend.

The singer, 19, is also facing an investigation by Los Angeles police over vandalism involving eggs thrown at a neighbor's home earlier this month.
