Talk-show host Katie Couric became engaged in East Hampton, where she has a home, during the Labor Day weekend.

Her representative, Matthew Hiltzik, confirmed to Newsday Tuesday that Couric -- whose syndicated talk show "Katie" returns for season two Monday on WABC/7 -- accepted a proposal from New York financier John Molner, her boyfriend of nearly two years. People magazine said he proposed on a beach at sunset.

"Yes it's true!" Couric, 56, tweeted Tuesday of the engagement. "So touched by all the kind tweets and warm wishes -- thank you! A great end to the summer and looking forward to seeing you all Monday!"

Molner, 50, is a partner at Brown Brothers Harriman, where he heads mergers and acquisitions. He and Couric went public with their relationship in April 2012. "He's great," Couric told the media at the time. "He's from Chicago. I love Midwesterners!"

This would be a second marriage for Couric, whose Manhasset-born husband, lawyer and NBC News legal analyst Jay Monahan, died of colon cancer in January 1998.

The two had married in 1989 and have two daughters, Ellie, 22, and Carrie, 17.

She and Molner met, she told More magazine in January, through a mutual friend, Molly Helfet. Following her 2011 breakup with green building-materials executive Brooks Perlin, Couric recalled, "I didn't say, 'I want to meet somebody,' because I thought that smelled too desperate. I just said I was interested in dating."

Through their friend's efforts, Molner eventually called and he and Couric began dating.
