Actress Katie Holmes, who this week finalized a divorce settlement with film star Tom Cruise, has reportedly returned to her Roman Catholic roots, joining the congregation of the Church of St. Francis Xavier in Manhattan. The Huffington Post said that while Holmes has not yet attended a service, she recently registered as a parishioner. The venerable church was founded in 1850; its present building is at 16th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues.

Cruise's Scientology faith has been widely reported to be a factor in the breakup of the couple, who have a daughter, Suri, 6.

On Wednesday, Holmes, Suri and Holmes' mother, Kathy, visited the Central Park Zoo, according to Us Weekly. The magazine described Holmes as "smiling and laughing with her little daughter." Us said Suri was especially intrigued by the zoo's penguins. On Tuesday, the trio spent time together at Chelsea Piers, Us said.

Meanwhile, The Los Angeles Times reported that Holmes took secretive measures to ensure that she would be able to file for divorce. The Times said Holmes began contacting attorneys using a disposable cellphone provided by a friend, so that Cruise would not be aware of the conversations.
