"Top Gun" actress Kelly McGillis and her longtime partner have been joined in a civil union in a New Jersey courtroom ceremony, according to The New York Times.

Camden County Judge Robert T. Zane III presided at the civil union Wednesday in Collingswood Municipal Court.

McGillis, 53, who came out as a lesbian last year, and Melanie Leis, 42, a Philadelphia sales executive, met in 2000 when Leis was a bartender at a Key West, Fla., bar McGillis owned with her then-husband.

In addition to "Top Gun," McGillis starred in "The Accused" and "Witness."

Leis is a regional sales executive with Independence Communications, a provider of Muzak.

McGillis' two previous marriages ended in divorce. She came out in a 2009 interview with shewired.com.
