Comedy icon Lily Tomlin married Jane Wagner, her partner and collaborator of 42 years, in a private ceremony in Los Angeles on New Year's Eve.
"They're very happy," Tomlin's spokeswoman, Jennifer Allen, told People magazine Tuesday, confirming a brief mention of the wedding by columnist Liz Smith.
Multiple Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award-winner Tomlin, 74, and Wagner, 78 -- whose own awards include three Emmys and two Peabodys -- have collaborated on numerous critical and commercial successes, including Tomlin's 1985 one-woman Broadway show "The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe."
The two became a couple in March 1971. While working on her comedy album "And That's The Truth," Tomlin said in 2006, "I persuaded her to come to California and help me produce it. Frankly, I was pretty taken with her as soon as I saw her. We just sort of clicked. We became a couple right away."
