Linda Evangelista settles child-support case

A surprise settlement Monday ended the highly contentious child-support case involving supermodel Linda Evangelista and French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, the father of her 5-year-old son, Augustin James.

The agreement, the terms of which were not disclosed, came on the second day of the case in Manhattan Family Court. The case was adjourned less than 20 minutes after attorneys for both sides met in the judge's chambers, ABC News said.

Both parties are expected back in court Tuesday to approve final details.

"I can confirm that they seem to have come to an agreement," Pinault's representative told E! News. The billionaire's lawyer, David Aronson, told reporters outside court, "Everybody's glad for the sake and the benefit of the child that it's done."

Evangelista, 46, and Pinault, 49, chief executive of the company that owns such brands as Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, had a four-month relationship that ended in January 2006. Though Pinault, heir to an estimated $11.5 billion business concern, had known he was Augustin's father since January 2007, he did not acknowledge the child as his son until 2009, ABC said. He had fathered Valentina Paloma Pinault in September 2007 with actress Salma Hayek, whom he married in 2009. Pinault also has a son and a daughter from a previous marriage that ended in divorce in 2004.

Most reports had said Evangelista was asking for at least $46,000 in monthly child support, but she denied that figure in court last Thursday. She did not comment to reporters following yesterday's announcement.
