Lindsay Lohan free on bail, judge yanks probation
Lindsay Lohan was free on bail Wednesday afternoon after the judge in a scheduled progress hearing revoked the troubled actress' probation, saying she missed nine scheduled community-service appointments and left others early.
Lohan, 25, whose probation stemmed from three DUI and related arrests in 2007, had a bondsman on hand who posted bail of $50,000 each on two counts. The Long Island native was released within two hours of being arrested at the end of the hearing, a Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokeswoman told CNN. Judge Stephanie Sautner of Los Angeles Superior Court ordered a probation violation hearing for Nov. 2 to determine sentencing.
Sautner had ordered Lohan in April to complete 360 hours of community service at Los Angeles' Downtown Women's Center, followed by 120 hours at the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner, the county morgue. After the center recently terminated her for spotty attendance, the Probation Department reassigned her to the American Red Cross. Saying, "Nobody has the power to change my sentence," the judge refused to credit Lohan for any time served there.
Expressing dismay at what she considered the slow pace of Lohan's 60-day community service, Sautner ordered Lohan to complete 16 hours at the morgue before the next hearing.
Defense attorney Shawn Chapman Holley had argued that Lohan "is in substantial compliance with the court order."
"Lindsay is hoping this matter will be resolved on November 2 and the court will reinstate probation," Steve Honig, Lohan's spokesman, said in a statement.
Community service at the morgue includes "general janitorial work, cleaning floors, toilets, vacuuming, a number of things," Assistant Chief Ed Winter told Newsday, noting this does not include sensitive areas. "We have a cleaning service that cleans the autopsy rooms and such," he said. He confirmed of Lohan: "She will not work in the gift shop."
Several media outlets speculated about Lohan's markedly fatigued appearance at the hearing. Her cheeks were either bruised or poorly made up, E! Online noted, suggesting that her drawn countenance may be at least partly be the result of dental work done on Friday.
