Macaulay Culkin not an addict, his rep says

A representative for actor Macaulay Culkin has slammed a supermarket tabloid report claiming the former "Home Alone" star is addicted to a variety of drugs and has six months to live.

"The report in the National Enquirer that Macaulay Culkin is addicted to heroin and assorted hallucinogenics is not only categorically without merit, but it is also impossibly and ridiculously fictitious," his spokeswoman told Newsday in a statement Wednesday. "We beseech the responsible media to consider the source and its reputation and to please not perpetuate this destructive and insulting story by pursuing it any further."

In a cover story, the weekly tabloid cited anonymous sources in its report that Culkin, 31, spends up to $6,000 a month on heroin, oxycodone and other illegal substances.

Attorneys for the actor told Fox News Wednesday that Culkin has not almost overdosed, as the article stated, and does not spend thousands of dollars on drugs.

In June 2005, Culkin pleaded guilty in Oklahoma City to misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and medication without a prescription. He had been arrested the previous September after police stopped a car in which he was a passenger and found more than a half-ounce of marijuana and the prescription anti-anxiety medication Xanax. The actor received a one-year deferred sentence on each charge and was ordered to pay $540 in fees.

Culkin, whose 1990 comedy "Home Alone" and its 1992 sequel were huge box office hits, also starred in "Richie Rich," "My Girl" and "Uncle Buck." His most recent film was the 2007 independent comedy "Sex and Breakfast."
