Singer-actor and "America's Got Talent" host Nick Cannon confirmed Thursday that he and his wife, pop star Mariah Carey, have separated.

"There is trouble in paradise," Cannon, 33, told the syndicated entertainment-news show "The Insider." "We have been living in separate houses for a few months."

TMZ.com, elaborating on a previous report by E! News, said Thursday the couple separated in May and are living apart in New York. Cannon visits their twin children -- son Moroccan and daughter Monroe Cannon, 3 -- but has no contact with Greenlawn native and Harborfields High School alumna Carey, 45, the website said.

"My main focus is my kids," Cannon told "The Insider," which said he also dispelled rumors that infidelity had been an issue.

Carey's spokeswoman, Cindi Berger, told Newsday: "I am not commenting on Mariah's personal life but Mariah is focusing on her children and her upcoming tour."

E! said it had confirmed that the couple's Bahamas home, where they married in April 2008, and their estate in Los Angeles' tony Bel Air neighborhood are both on the market.

Cannon had denied divorce rumors in a May interview with Parade magazine, saying, "You kind of have to ignore it because every week it's something different, and if you paid attention to it, it actually probably would start really affecting you . . . There's no merit or truth to it. It's kind of humorous, really. It couldn't be further off from the truth, and it really affects the credibility of the so-called newspapers."

The couple were married on April 30, 2008.
