Famed actress and sex symbol Marilyn Monroe would have celebrated her 89th birthday Monday.
Born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1st, 1926, she legally changed her name to Marilyn Monroe in 1956, according to the film and television database, IMDB.
Monroe started her career in Hollywood as a model, eventually starring in successful movies such as "Some Like It Hot," "The Seven Year Itch" and "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes."
Monroe died on Aug. 5, 1962, at age 36.
"Please don't make me a joke. End the interview with what I believe," Marilyn said in her last taped interview, with Life magazine, in 1962. "I want to be an artist, an actress with integrity. If fame goes by, so long, I've had you fame . . . At least it's something I experience, but that's not where I live."
