The parents of teenage pop star Miley Cyrus are divorcing.
Country music singer Billy Ray Cyrus and his wife of 17 years, Leticia "Tish" Cyrus, filed for divorce in their home state of Tennessee, the couple told People magazine Wednesday.
"As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for our family," the couple said in a joint statement to the celebrity magazine. "We are trying to work through some personal matters. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers."
Billy Ray Cyrus, 49, who appears on his daughter's Disney Channel series "Hannah Montana," scored a crossover hit with 1992's No. 1 single, "Achy Breaky Heart." He and his wife have five children.
