Paris Hilton issues apology for anti-gay remarks

Paris Hilton has issued an apology for the remarks she made about gay men.
The reality TV star posted a written apology on the GLAAD website late Thursday and tweeted a link to her post.
“I am so sorry and so upset that I caused pain to my gay friends, fans and their families with the comments heard this morning,” she wrote.
“It is the last thing that I would ever want to do and I cannot put into words how much I wish I could take back every word,” she added.
Paris Hilton's representative Thursday responded to the release of an audio recording in which the socialite called gay men “disgusting” and said “most of them probably have AIDS."
"Paris Hilton is a huge supporter of the gay community and would never purposefully make any negative statements about anyone's sexual orientation,” Hilton's representative said in a statement, adding that her comments “were to express that it is dangerous for anyone to have unprotected sex that could lead to a life-threatening disease.”
RadarOnline.com had posted the 50-second recording together with the representative's response, which was subsequently released to the media. The website said the audio was recorded by a taxi driver on Sept. 7 while Hilton was in Manhattan attending New York Fashion Week.
Her taxi companion, an unnamed friend whom Radar identified as “an openly gay male model,” is heard describing Grindr, an app used by gay men to locate others nearby for sex.
“They're disgusting,” Hilton says. “Dude, most of them probably have AIDS. I would be so scared if I were a gay guy. You'll, like, die of AIDS.”
Her rep added that “the cabdriver who recorded this only provided a portion of the conversation. It was not her intent to make any derogatory comments about all gays.”
This is not the first time Hilton's team has attempted to explain away her behavior, according to ABCNews.com. In 2010, her publicist had to clarify that Hilton did not do a Nazi salute while partying on a yacht in the south of France, despite her pose and military accessories.
The rep said Hilton was just dancing and scratching her face.
