Paris Jackson says she is temporarily retreating from public life

Without specifically denying that she has entered a treatment facility, as reported a day earlier, singer and model Paris Jackson on Wednesday confirmed she is temporarily retreating from public life.

"The media is exaggerating per usual," wrote Michael Jackson's daughter on Instagram. "Yes i've taken a break from work and social media and my phone because it can be too much sometimes, and everyone deserves a break, but i am happy and healthy and feeling better than ever!"

Referring to her band with musician and rumored boyfriend Gabriel Glenn, Paris Jackson went on to say that, "[G]abriel and i have some new music we're stoked to share with y'all! (@thesoundflowers) hope you guys' new year started out with lots of love and light and all the things. i'll be back soon!! Xxox." Accompanying the post was a photo of herself, her head mostly cropped out, sitting on a couch with a small dog.

People magazine, citing an anonymous "source close to the 20-year-old," reported Tuesday night that because Jackson had traveled extensively for work over the past year, she wanted time to revitalize herself. According to the source, Jackson had checked into a treatment facility as part of a wellness plan.

Jackson's spokeswoman did not respond to a Newsday request for comment.

Jackson has a history of mental-health issues. She told Rolling Stone two years ago that she has made what she termed "multiple" suicide attempts. In her most public effort, in June 2013 at age 15, she had slashed her wrist and ingested 20 Motrin pills, the article said. "It was just self-hatred," she told the magazine, "low self-esteem, thinking that I couldn't do anything right, not thinking I was worthy of living anymore." After her latest attempt, she spent her sophomore and half of her junior years at a therapeutic school in Utah.

"I was crazy. I was actually crazy," she told Rolling Stone. "I was going through a lot of, like, teen angst. And I was also dealing with my depression and my anxiety without any help."

Paris and her older brother Prince, 21, are Michael Jackson's children with Debbie Rowe, a nurse to whom the music icon was married for three years. The two never lived together and Rowe signed over custody of the children when the couple divorced in 1999. Youngest sibling Prince Michael II ("Blanket"), 16, was born via an unidentified surrogate mother.
