Royal nanny for Prince George named: Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo of Spain

A royal nanny has been named for Prince George, the nearly 8-month-old son of the UK's Prince William and Kate Middleton, the duke and duchess of Cambridge.

Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo was trained at Norland College, an internationally recognized child care and early-education institute, a Kensington Palace spokesman said Thursday. "Maria is a full-time nanny, who started work with us recently, and will be accompanying the duke and duchess and Prince George to New Zealand and Australia" on a previously announced royal tour beginning April 7.

Turrion Borrallo, a native of Spain, completed the three-year course at the more than century-old school, the newspaper The Daily Telegraph said.

William and Kate, who met the caregiver prior to her appointment, are "happy and delighted she's come on board," the spokesman said. During the royal tour, when the couple is "out and about she will be looking after Prince George as she's been doing for the last couple of weeks."

Turrion Borrallo, who is reportedly in her thirties, succeeds 71-year-old Jessie Webb, one of William's own former nannies, who has cared for Prince George as needed.

Upon word that photos were taken of Turrion Borrallo in Kensington Palace Gardens, contravening the Royal Parks and Other Open Spaces Regulations, the palace spokesman said the unnamed photographer's actions had become "a matter for the Royal Parks Police." The spokesman asked "that Maria's privacy, and that of her family and friends, be respected," adding, "We will not be giving further details on Maria or her employment, except to say that the duke and duchess are of course delighted she has chosen to join them."
