Tiger Woods kicks off talk-show tour
On the first two stops of what amounts to an image-rehabilitation tour, Tiger Woods joked about himself with Jimmy Fallon and opened up about being a single father on "Good Morning America."
"I'm present with my kids, and that's important," he told "GM's" Robin Roberts Thursday. "To be with them . . . and be connected to them and to see the joy on their faces." He conceded, "It's work. There's no doubt. It's work. It's tough. But enjoyable."
Woods said of daughter Sam, nearly 4, and son Charlie, 2, "I just love being with them and seeing what they're doing, what they're capable of doing, and the joys and just the shifts of interest -- that's what's just fun. We have a great time together."
Woods and his ex-wife, Elin Nordegren, divorced in August 2010 in the wake of his multiple infidelities that first came to light in late 2009. After the fallout that ensued, Woods says he now recognizes that family is "what's most important. Family's first. That's the way it was when I was growing up. My family -- my mom and dad -- were always there, were always present for me, and that's the way I am with my kids now."
Woods, who appeared on both shows to promote his new golf video game, had more trouble speaking up Wednesday night with the talkative Fallon, though he did manage some low-key, rueful humor.
"It's been a year-and-a-half since you've been on the show," Fallon said. "What have you been up to?" he added nonchalantly.
"Nothin'," Woods replied, to audience laughter. "Nothin'. Playin' bad golf."
