The 5-year-old son of singer-actor Usher was recovering Tuesday in an Atlanta intensive-care unit after nearly drowning in the family pool.

Usher Raymond V was taken by ambulance to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite on Monday afternoon, CBS affiliate WGCL said Tuesday. The report said that doctors expected a full recovery.

As first reported by TMZ.com, the child was in the swimming pool with his aunt and accidentally wedged an arm in an underwater drain while trying to retrieve a toy. The aunt immediately tried to rescue him but was unable to work the arm loose. A maid dived in, and after also trying unsuccessfully, screamed for help. Two workmen in the house responded and freed the boy, and one administered CPR, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Police and firefighters arrived at the house shortly before 3 p.m., the paper said.

Grammy Award-winner Usher, 34, who had not been at home, arrived and rode with his son in the ambulance. WGCL said the child was unconscious but the Journal-Constitution said the police report described the boy as alert and breathing.

The child's mother, Usher's ex-wife Tameka Foster, rushed to the hospital after receiving a call from one of Usher's staffers, People magazine said.

Usher V is the elder of their two sons, with a younger brother, NaviydEly, 4. Usher gained primary custody of both in August 2012.

This is the second childhood accident the family has suffered in a little over a year. In July 2012, Foster's son and Usher's stepson, Kile Glover, 11, died two weeks after being struck by a Jet ski in Georgia's Lake Lanier.
