Victoria Siegel, 'Queen of Versailles' daughter, struggled with addiction prior to death at 18, lawyer says

The 18-year-old daughter of the stars of the "Queen of Versailles" documentary had struggled with an addiction to a drug used to control her seizures before she died last weekend, a family attorney said Tuesday.

Victoria Siegel had recently undergone voluntary rehabilitation to shake her dependence on the drug, attorney Michael Marder said in a statement.

It is likely she ingested one or more drugs before she died, he said

"However, we cannot determine at this time whether or not the drugs she took were in fact prescribed medication, something else, or where and how these drugs may have been obtained," Marder said.

Victoria Siegel was found unresponsive by a housekeeper at the family's mansion in Windermere on Saturday and pronounced dead at a hospital. Autopsy results haven't yet been released.

She was the daughter of David and Jackie Siegel, stars of the 2012 documentary, "Queen of Versailles." The movie chronicled their effort to build a 90,000-square-foot mansion, as well as their extravagant lifestyle.

David Siegel is the founder of Westgates Resorts, an Orlando-based timeshare empire. The documentary also followed his company's struggles during the economic downturn. Jackie Siegel is a former Mrs. Florida America and has been a director of the pageant.

The couple was featured last week in an episode of ABC's "Celebrity Wife Swap." The Siegels were in Utah for a wedding Saturday but flew back when notified about what had happened to their daughter, Marder said.

They have seven other children together, and they had planned to take a family cruise this week, the lawyer said.

"They are hurt, deeply wounded and they are grieving," Marder said in the statement. "Victoria was a beautiful spirit with a wonderful smile who was greatly loved, and will be deeply missed."
