Whoopi apologizes to the NY Times
Whoopi Goldberg has changed her "View" about The New York Times.
Two days after accusing the paper of "shoddy reporting" for leaving her out of an article about a lack of African-American actors in recent films - saying, "I will always be Academy Award-winner Whoopi Goldberg, and [I] have been dismissed and erased by The New York Times film critics, who should know better" - the comedian apologized for misreading the article, which appeared Sunday.
"I'm going to apologize to The New York Times for calling their reporting 'shoddy,' " Goldberg, co-host of ABC's "The View," said on the show Wednesday. "I personally found the article really confusing, and I also was quite hurt that Cuba Gooding Jr., Louis Gossett Jr., and myself were not included in this expose about black Hollywood. But for saying it was shoddy reporting, I apologize, New York Times."
"Hollywood's Whiteout," by Manohla Dargis and A.O. Scott, was an analysis of the number of prominent black roles in studio films released since 2002, when Denzel Washington and Halle Berry each won an Academy Award.
The piece did not mention Goldberg, who won for 1990's "Ghost."
