Chris Brown's tame in 'DWTS' appearance
Come on, what did you expect? That anger-management-school dropout Chris Brown would hurtle himself across the dance floor into Bruno Tonioli? Scream at mild-mannered band leader Harold Wheeler? Or perhaps break something? At least that would have been in character.
No, Brown performed Tuesday night ("Yeah 3x," "Forever"), and behaved -- apparently no mean feat for him -- while selling even more albums ("F.A.M.E."), or not. In fact, it's safe to assume "Dancing With the Stars' " studio audience wasn't in a mood to go album-shopping, least of all for his. They clapped loudly (but they always do) making certain not to compound ABC's error in inviting him -- or not disinviting him -- after last week's meltdown at "Good Morning America's" studios. Perhaps mindful of that, Bergeron kept his distance, too. Everyone else who watched probably wasn't thinking of Brown's music either, but of chairs and windows and possibly Brown's ex-girlfriend Rihanna, too.
Should Brown have even gone on "Dancing"? In some corners of the Internet this past week, that was a bigger question than "should President Barack Obama have gone into Libya?" Everyone had an opinion because everyone knows that if they tossed a chair through a network's plate-glass window, they wouldn't get an opportunity to further promote themselves on that network's air a week later. Brown had become just another indulged celebrity with terrible -- and borderline dangerous -- manners.
Meanwhile, someone did get voted off "Dancing's" first results show: Mike Catherwood. Oh yes, and Brown? Most viewers would have liked to vote him off, too.
