Chris Brown says he's quitting music after spending 45 minutes in jail

Though Chris Brown has seen continued success in music, even since his 2009 assault on Rihanna, the singer himself doesn't see it that way.

He took to Twitter on Tuesday -- one day after spending 45 minutes in a Los Angeles jail for charges stemming from a hit-and-run, according to TMZ -- with claims he will soon quit music.

"Don't worry, mainstream America," Brown wrote. "After this X album, it'll probably be my last album.

"Being famous is amazing when it's for your music and talent," he continued. "I'm tired of being famous for a mistake I made when I was 18. I'm cool and over it!"

That "mistake" at age 18 is Brown's beating of on-again-off-again girlfriend Rihanna, for which he has apologized publicly and for which he recently said she has forgiven him. (To be sure, Brown was actually 19 at the time of  the incident. But can you think of anything worse he did at age 18 that he is now famous for?)

His upcoming album, "X," is set for release Aug. 26. Interestingly, Brown has since deleted the tweets. Does that mean he's had a change of heart?
