Daddy Yankee gay? Publicist says reports of rapper's homosexuality are false

Most English readers are probably hearing about gay rumors surrounding Daddy Yankee for the first time, but Spanish-language media have been abuzz about his sexual orientation for weeks.

A publicist for the Puerto Rican artist attempted to put the rumors to rest Wednesday, when it released a statement denouncing previous reports that said Daddy Yankee, 36, came out as gay, according to the Los Angeles Times.

"The reports circulating regarding Daddy Yankee's declaration of homosexuality [were] falsely written by an online outlet known for fabricating false information and spreading it through social media sites," Mayna Nevarez, president of the public relations firm Nevarez Communications, said in the statement.

Under normal circumstances, an official statement from a publicist would seem like a sure way to stop such a rumor. But according to some accounts, Yankee himself had previously released his own statement declaring that he is gay and asking for privacy.

"I am a human being like any other, with virtues and defects, and I don't believe that this is a defect," he was quoted as saying.

The back-and-forth was also fueled by photos that surfaced online Wednesday of a man resembling the "Gasolina" singer kissing another man, as well as other reports he held a news conference calling out the rumor mill for spreading false information.

Sounds like someone needs a new publicist.
