It's 11-11-11: make a wish!

It's 11/11/11, the first time in a hundred years that the date comprised ones all across the board. Every kid I know stops dead in his tracks when the clock reads 11:11 to make a wish. Some insist the wish will only come true if it's made at 11:11 p.m., others make no a.m./p.m. distinction. I don't know how this practice got started, and a web search turned up no definitive answer about its origins. But I did find plenty of people who see its value.

The folks over at astrostyle.com maintain they have  "uncovered an entire network of people who consider themselves 'lightworkers.'  Lightworkers have a mission in this lifetime to hold as much light for the planet as possible; in essence raising the frequency of love and one-ness on Earth. Seeing 11:11 on the clock is a wake up call or a reminder that you are a lightworker." Other accounts content that when you look at the clock at exactly 11:11 or see the number in addresses, on buses or elsewhere, it's "a message from angels letting you know that you’re an 'angel on earth,'  with the same mission as a lightworker."

Renowned psychic Uri Geller has written an article on 11:11, and the Kabbalah, which is famously followed by Madonna, "is a 2,000-year-old belief system centered around accessing the Light, and teaches that our job is to become Lightworkers," according to astrostyle.com.

Interestingly enough, the Mayan calendar will end on Dec. 21, 2012, at precisely 11:11. Believers maintain that the exact moment will be a turning point for the world.

When the clock hits 11:11 today, well, I imagine the world will be saturated with wishes like never before. What's more, while you're surely aware that it will be Veteran's Day,  you might not know that it's also Corduroy Appreciation Day, which the Corduroy Appreciation Club (yes, one exists) bills this year as "the most important date in history." Why? Because it's "the date which most closely resembles Corduroy, EVER, 111111 is upon us! Rejoice. Rejoice! Our day has come."

And if you happen to be in Atlantic City today, Trump Taj Mahal, is planning to hold a raffle drawing every 11 minutes. The prizes: $1,111, naturally.
