Paramount Pictures today officially announced a July 5 release date for Katy Perry's 3-D concert movie "Katy Perry: Part of Me."
The film promises to "reveal Katy's life on-and off-stage" [sic] during the pop singer's 2011 California Dreams Tour.
"For the last year and a half, I have intimately documented my life both on and off the stage of The California Dreams Tour," Perry said in a news release. "I want to take you behind the cotton candy clouds and reveal the highs and lows and nuts of bolts of this extraordinary ride. I promise you, after seeing this film, you will truly know me."
That's a big promise, and one other musical artists have made about documentaries that turned out to be more promotional than revealing. Madonna's "Truth or Dare" comes to mind, as does "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never." That film's producers, Jane Lipsitz and Dan Cutforth, directed Perry's "Part of Me."
The big question will be how much Perry's estranged husband, comedian Russell Brand, figures into the film. The two married in October 2010, and Perry launched the California Dreams Tour a few months later, in February. But before the 124-performance tour was through, Brand had filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences."
