WHO Kristen Stewart
THE MOVIE “Charlie’s Angels”
THE DEAL The reboot of the dormant film franchise will hit theaters later than expected, according to Deadline. The Sony Pictures film, starring “Twilight” actress Kristen Stewart alongside Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska as a new generation of female crime-fighters, will be released Nov. 1, 2019, a date recently vacated by the Warner Bros. “Wonder Woman 1984,” which was moved to summer 2020. The new date for “Charlie’s Angels” -- about five weeks later than previously announced -- has some symbolic significance: It’s the same weekend when the first film opened in 2000, starring Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz.
WHO Dolly Parton
THE MOVIE “Dumplin' ”
THE DEAL The country singer launched her latest campaign -- not for office, but for an Oscar -- earlier this week, Variety reports. Parton was at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills to perform her original song “Girl in the Movies” for a crowd of journalists. The song is featured in the upcoming Netflix movie “Dumplin’,” about the plus-size daughter (Danielle Macdonald, of “Patti Cake$”) of a former beauty queen (Jennifer Aniston) who enters a pageant herself. “We’re actually out politicking trying to get our song heard and maybe get nominated for an award on those Oscars and all that stuff,” Parton told reporters. Netflix announced it had purchased the film in September and plans to release it on its own platform and in theaters later this year.
THE MOVIE “Frankenstein”
THE DEAL James Whale’s 1931 classic, based on a stage-play adapted from Mary Shelley’s novel, stars Colin Clive as the mad scientist of the title and Boris Karloff (credited only as “?”) as The Monster. Accompanying this pre-Halloween treat will be Karloff’s daughter, Sara Karloff, who will speak with film historian Ron MacCloskey and hold a Q&A session.
