Paul Thomas Anderson's latest stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as a charismatic spiritualist who takes an alcoholic war veteran (Joaquin Phoenix) under his wing. Any resemblance to Scientology is purely coincidental, supposedly.

Tears of Gaza (Sept. 19)

A documentary on Israel's 2008 bombing of Gaza, featuring raw footage culled from Palestinian cameras and smartphones.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower (Sept. 21)

Emma Watson makes her major post-"Potter" debut in this story of misfits coming of age. With Logan Lerman ("The Three Musketeers") and Ezra Miller ("We Need to Talk About Kevin").

The Paperboy (Oct. 5)

Zac Efron plays the title role; Matthew McConaughey plays his brother, a Florida journalist investigating a crime. Director Lee Daniels ("Precious") adapts Pete Dexter's novel. With Nicole Kidman and John Cusack.

Here Comes the Boom (Oct. 12)

Kevin James plays a high-school teacher who begins moonlighting as a mixed-martial-arts fighter. Unlike "Warrior," it's a comedy. With Henry Winkler and Salma Hayek.

Seven Psychopaths (Oct. 12)

A struggling screenwriter (Colin Farrell) lands in hot water when two friends (Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell) kidnap a gangster's dog. Directed by Martin McDonagh ("In Bruges").

Killing Them Softly (Oct. 19)

A crime thriller about a mob enforcer (Brad Pitt) tracking down three not-so-smart thieves. With Richard Jenkins, James Gandolfini and Ray Liotta.

The Sessions (Oct. 26)

A 38-year-old virgin in an iron lung (John Hawkes) takes matters into his own hands by hiring a sex surrogate (Helen Hunt). Based on the autobiographical writings of poet Mark O'Brien.

This Must Be the Place (Nov. 2)

The fictional story of a 50-year-old Goth-rocker (Sean Penn) who decides to pick up his father's unfinished business: Nazi-hunting. With Judd Hirsch and Frances McDormand.

Anna Karenina (Nov. 16)

Keira Knightley stars in Joe Wright's twist on the Tolstoy classic. Aaron Taylor-Johnson ("Savages") plays her lover, Vronsky. Tom Stoppard wrote the screenplay.

Rise of the Guardians (Nov. 21)

An animated film in which young Jack Frost (voiced by Chris Pine) battles the Boogeyman (Jude Law) with help from Santa Claus (Alec Baldwin), the Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher) and the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman).

Hyde Park on Hudson (Dec. 7)

In June 1939, Franklin Delano Roosevelt (Bill Murray) welcomes England's royals to his country home. He also brings his wife (Olivia Williams) and "intimate" (Laura Linney).

Not Fade Away (Dec. 21)

"The Sopranos" creator David Chase makes his feature-film debut with a story about three New Jersey teens who form a band after seeing the Rolling Stones on television in 1964. The actors are mostly unknowns; James Gandolfini plays a dad.

On the Road (Dec. 21)

Jack Kerouac's seminal Beat novel finally hits the screen with Sam Riley as Sal Paradise, Garrett Hedlund as Dean Moriarty and Kristen Stewart as Dean's girl, Marylou. With Kirsten Dunst and Steve Buscemi. Directed by Walter Salles ("The Motorcycle Diaries").

Mea Maxima Culpa (TBA)

New documentary from Alex Gibney ("Taxi to the Dark Side") asks how a Catholic priest in Milwaukee was able to abuse more than 200 deaf children in a school under his control.
