'Forrest Gump' to be shown on IMAX screens in September
"Forrest Gump" and that box of chocolates are about to look even sweeter.
To mark the 20th anniversary of the Oscar-winning movie starring Tom Hanks, "Forrest Gump" will be shown on IMAX screens on Sept. 5, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Hanks won his second best actor Oscar for his touching performance as a slow-witted Southerner who, through unusual circumstances, keeps finding himself at the scenes of numerous historical events. Others in the cast include Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Sally Field and Haley Joel Osment.
The movie, based on Winston Groom's novel, opened in theaters on July 6, 1994, and went on to earn $677 million worldwide and six Academy Awards. Hanks waived his salary on "Forrest Gump" in exchange for a percentage of the film's gross receipts, and to date has made roughly $70 million through the deal. "Forrest Gump" currently ranks as No. 31 on the list of all-time highest domestic-grossing films, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.
