WHO Gal Gadot

THE MOVIE “Wonder Woman 1984”

THE DEAL “We did it. Again!!,” Gadot wrote on her Instagram account earlier this week after wrapping production on this sequel to the 2017 smash. “We shot in 4 very different locations in 3 countries, and I'm so soooo proud of the almost 1000 crew members who came to set every day, giving everything they have into our movie.” Gadot also posted a photo of herself and director Patty Jenkins on the set of the film, which takes place in the 1980s. The sequel features Kristen Wiig as the villain Cheetah and Chris Pine reprising his role as World War I pilot Steve Trevor. It’s scheduled for release June 5, 2020.

THE MOVIE “Straight Outta Compton”

THE DEAL A lawsuit over the 2015 smash biopic about rap group N.W.A has been dismissed, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The group’s manager Jerry Heller, played by Paul Giamatti in the film, sued the studio, Universal, for defamation of character. After Heller’s death in 2016, his estate claimed that he had collaborated on the film’s screenplay, but last Friday a U.S. District Judge in California dismissed the suit, saying the Heller estate had failed to provide evidence of co-authorship on the script. In his ruling, the judge wrote, “The action is, at last, DISMISSED.”

THE MOVIE “A Silent Voice”

THE DEAL This Japanese animated film with a deaf heroine will play two dates in January — one subtitled, one dubbed — at theaters nationwide, including three on Long Island. Directed by Naoko Yamada, the film follows Shoko, a deaf schoolgirl, and Shoya, a bully who, as an adult, seeks forgiveness from his old victim. The film will be accompanied by an interview with Lexi Cowden, a member of the deaf community, who plays the voice of Shoko.
