The smell of movie-theater popcorn is about to fill the air again at Herricks Cinemas in New Hyde Park.

On Thursday, the theater's parent company Bow Tie Cinemas announced that Herricks will reopen on Friday with a "Welcome Back Weekend" celebration. Moviegoers who attend any screening through Sunday will receive a free small popcorn with the purchase of any drink and also get automatic entry into free ticket raffles.

The opening slate of films includes Marvel Studios’ "Eternals," the family feature "Clifford the Big Red Dog," Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical "tick, tick … BOOM!" and Wes Anderson’s quirky comedy "The French Dispatch." Tickets can be purchased on the Bow Tie App or at bowtiecinemas.com.

Fully vaccinated patrons do not need to be masked, but those who are not vaccinated are required to wear face masks. For a full list of safety protocols, go to the Bow Tie website.

The theater, which opened in 1962, was closed temporarily in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
