Hillary Clinton coming to Hamptons International Film Festival
Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will join the Hamptons International Film Festival on Saturday to speak at a screening of “Zurawski v Texas,” a documentary about abortion rights.
The film follows several women who were denied abortions in Texas and subsequently mounted a legal challenge to the state’s abortion laws. The case, brought by the Center for Reproductive Rights, grew to include 20 women and two doctors who are seeking clarification on medical emergency exceptions to Texas’ abortion laws.
Clinton, who is an executive producer on the film, will be interviewed at the screening by Mariska Hargitay, the “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” star and a longtime activist for women’s issues. Also in attendance will be Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton, another executive producer of the documentary, along with directors Maisie Crow and Abbie Perrault, and people featured in the film. The screening will take place at 11:30 a.m. at East Hampton Middle School.
Former first lady Clinton is among a handful of last-minute additions to the Hamptons festival that were announced Tuesday. Others include actor Rashida Jones, who will speak at a screening of the short documentary she co-directed, “A Swim Lesson”; screenwriter David Koepp (“Jurassic Park,” “Mission: Impossible”) who will speak at a screening of “Presence,” his new film with director Steven Soderbergh; and political consultant James Carville, subject of the documentary “Carville: Winning is Everything, Stupid.”
The 32nd Hamptons International Film Festival begins Friday at venues on the East End. For more information, go to hamptonsfilmfest.org.
