THE DEAL The actor who played Eazy-E in “Straight Outta Compton” has joined the cast of a movie about President Barack Obama’s college days during the 1980s, according to The Hollywood Reporter. There is no official announcement of Mitchell’s role, nor of the role to be played by another new cast member, Ellar Coltrane of “Boyhood.” Devon Terrell will play the young Obama. Vikram Gandhi, a correspondent for Vice, will direct the film from a script by Adam Mansbach. Filming is expected to begin next month.

THE DEAL The Australian actress has joined the cast of a new crime film opposite Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson and Caleb Landry Jones, Deadline.com reports. The film stars Frances McDormand as a woman who is so frustrated with the unsolved case of her daughter’s murder that she buys three billboards to goad the police into action. The film reunites Cornish with “Seven Psychopaths” writer-director Martin McDonagh. Filming is set to start next month in North Carolina.

THE DEAL The actor-director who sold his slave-revolt drama “The Birth of a Nation” at Sundance for a record-setting $17.5 million is already working on a new film. According to TheWrap.com, Parker will write a script based on Lisa Fenn’s book “Carry On,” which tells the story of two disabled boys — one blind, one an amputee — who became wrestlers at their high school in Ohio. One of the film’s producers is Mark Ciardi, whose credits include the sports movies “Million Dollar Arm” and “McFarland, USA.” Fenn’s book is due for release in August.
