Kerry Washington, Eva Longoria team on film comedy ‘24-7’
WHO Kerry Washington
THE MOVIE “24-7”
THE DEAL The star of ABC’s “Scandal” will team up with Eva Longoria for a new film project, Deadline reports. It’s being called a “workplace comedy,” although no plot details have been revealed. It’s another sign that studios are willing to gamble on movies with female leads and, in this case, female backers: Both actresses will produce (with Universal) under their Simpson Street and UnbeliEVAble Entertainment banners, respectively.
THE MOVIE “The Mummy”
THE DEAL There’s big money riding on the “Mummy” reboot, which opens Friday. According to Variety, Universal Studios shelled out $7.83 million on television advertising for the film last week, more than any other studio for the seven days. Tom Cruise stars as tomb raider Nick Morton in this effort to revive the “Mummy” franchise that began in 1932 (with Boris Karloff in the title role) and launch a new series based on classic Universal monster movies now set in an overlapping “monsterverse.” Coming in second place for advertising spending last week was Paramount Pictures’ “Transformers: The Last Knight,” at $5.99 million.
THE MOVIE “Between the Shades”
THE DEAL Director Jill Salvino, a Dix Hills native and graduate of Half Hollow Hills East High School, will screen her debut documentary, “Between the Shades,” at the SOHO International Film Festival next week. Drawing from roughly 50 interviews, Salvino’s film attempts to explore as many facets of the LGBTQ community as possible, focusing particularly on how people choose — or decline — to define themselves. The film was completed with more than $46,000 in Kickstarter funding.
