Lindsay Lohan plays the president's wife in her first movie in six years
A new trailer and a premiere date have been released for "Among the Shadows," Lindsay Lohan's first feature film in six years, set to be available on video-on-demand March 5.
"I want to hire you,” Lohan as first lady Patricia Sherman tells private investigator Kristy Wolfe (Charlotte Beckett) in a trailer released online Monday. "Someone," she explains, "wants to kill my husband," U.S. President Richard Sherman (Kristoffel Verdonck), who is speaking at the UN's European headquarters in Brussels.
In a longer version of the scene, in a previous trailer released in September, Wolfe asks, "Why don't you go to the European police?" "Because," Sherman responds of the would-be assassin, "I think it's one of you — a werewolf."
Wolfe, who indeed has descended from a long line of werewolves, takes on the case as it twists and turns through explosions, assassinations and a political conspiracy. In the earlier trailer, Wolfe marvels to Sherman of an upcoming election: "Both candidates wolves. If any of the humans knew…"
Shot primarily in Brussels beginning November 2015 under the working title "The Shadow Within," the low-budget independent film had been acquired by Tombstone Distribution in February 2016, and is now being distributed by Momentum Pictures. Though Lohan, 32, plays a supporting role, her image is the focus of the movie poster, with her name emblazoned across the top.
In a since-deleted Instagram post from Nov. 16, 2015, the star, originally of Cold Spring Harbor and Merrick, had posted a closeup of herself captioned, "My first day on my new film!!!! Will be sending a sneak peek of my character this week." The next day she added a shot of herself in character, and wrote, "First day on set of my new film.”
She has not commented on social media about the new trailer's release.
Lohan, who has made a handful of TV guest appearances this decade and last year joined the British sitcom "Sick Note," had starred in the low-budget feature "The Canyons" in 2013. Her most recent film, the 10-minute short "Till Human Voices Wake Us," about mermaid-like selkies [seal women], premiered at the La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival in July 2015. As well, she had earned respectable reviews in fall 2014 for her stage debut in a West End revival of David Mamet's "Speed-the-Plow."
Her MTV reality show, "Lindsay Lohan's Beach Club," focusing on the VIP hosts of her restaurant bar on the beach in Mykonos, Greece, premiered Jan. 8.
