The long-awaited sequel to Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan’s “Freaky Friday” has begun production, with Lohan joking of the body-swap comedy, “It’s going to be a really freaky Friday. Much freakier than you would expect!”

In a segment aired on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Thursday, the Cold Spring Harbor and Merrick-raised Lohan, who will turn 38 on Tuesday, said filming the sequel to the 2003 Disney hit has been “fantastic. I mean, we all just have so much fun and it’s so great to have that on set. You just always really want to have a good time. So it's just a lot of love, a lot of fun, a lot of laughs — it's a great experience."

The new film revisits Tess Coleman (Curtis) and her daughter Anna (Lohan), who in director Mark Waters’ original — itself a remake of the 1976 film with Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster — were, respectively, an overworked single mom and a high schooler with a garage band.

In the sequel helmed by Nisha Ganatra — primarily a sitcom director whose films include “Late Night” (2019) and “The High Note” (2020) — Tess and Anna have “endured an identity crisis,” according to Disney’s synopsis. “Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.”

“I can’t say much,” Lohan told “GMA.” But I am taking guitar lessons. And I do have a daughter in the movie.”

Mark Harmon, who played Tess’ fiance Ryan in the original, and Chad Michael Murray, who played Anna’s boyfriend Jake, reprise their roles, as do Rosalind Chao, Haley Hudson, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Lucille Soong and Stephen Tobolowsky. Joining the cast are Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.

Curtis, an executive producer of the sequel, has remained close to Lohan, and the two often post social media congratulations and comments to each other.

“Jamie and I have stayed in touch over the years,” Lohan said. “They always say, like, when you have a best friend or someone who you're really close with, if you cannot see them for years and years but when you see them again, it's like you've never separated. And I think just women supporting women is such an incredible thing.”

The sequel is due in theaters next year.
