THE DEAL In the original 1984 version of this musical teen flick, the role of Ren McCormack, a toe-tapping rocker trapped in a no-dance zone, went to Kevin Bacon, then a relative newcomer. For the remake, Paramount has chosen a virtual unknown, Deadline.com reports. Wormald, a young dancer from Boston, has a resumé of mostly music videos, including Christina Aguilera's "Candyman" and Chris Brown's "Gimme That." The film is reportedly scheduled for release next year.

 

THE EVENT Long Island International Film Expo

THE DEAL The 13th annual installment of the festival has announced its dates and full lineup of features and shorts. The opening night film, "The 5th Quarter," a sports drama based on the true story of a family coping with the death of a son, stars Andie McDowell and Aidan Quinn.

THE MOVIE "Sleeping and Waking"

THE DEAL Roslyn-based filmmaker Joe Banno will be on hand next week for a screening of his latest independent movie, a sci-fi romantic thriller that may appeal to fans of John Frankenheimer's 1966 gem, "Seconds." Banno's film is about a cancer patient (Jeff Allin) who undergoes a full-body transplant but pays a heavy emotional and spiritual price.
