New 'Chucky' film, plus more movie buzz

THE MOVIE "Curse of Chucky"

THE DEAL The mangled, murderous doll who turned the 1988 horror film "Child's Play" into an unexpectedly successful franchise is back. His creator, writer-director Don Mancini, is expected to premiere "Curse of Chucky" -- the first installment of the series since 2004's "Seed of Chucky" -- at Montreal's FanTasia International Film Festival in August. As always, Oscar-nominated actor Brad Dourif ("One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest") provides the doll's voice, and this time his daughter, Fiona Dourif, is in the cast.

THE MOVIE "Between Us"

THE DEAL Julia Stiles and Taye Diggs play a couple facing the ups and downs of marriage while monitoring the parallel lives of two old friends (Melissa George and David Harbour) in this indie drama, which screens as part of the ongoing Furman Film Series. Producer Mike S. Ryan, whose credits include "Junebug" and "Meek's Cutoff," will appear in person to answer questions.

THE MOVIE "Out of the Clear Blue Sky"

THE DEAL Danielle Gardner's documentary about the devastating effects of 9/11 on financial firm Cantor Fitzgerald -- whose loss of 658 employees was higher than that of any other organization's that day -- has been acquired by distribution company A23, which plans to release it in theaters Sept. 6. Gardner's film also looks at the company's CEO, Howard Lutnick, who lost his brother in the tragedy but later drew fire for stopping paychecks to victims' families. "Out of the Clear Blue Sky" screened last year to positive reviews at the DocuWeeks showcase.
