Patricia Arquette, Ethan Hawke share film award for 'Boyhood,' plus more movie buzz

THE MOVIE "Boyhood"
THE DEAL Arquette and Ethan Hawke, stars of this year's Oscar contender "Boyhood," will be honored at February's Santa Barbara International Film Festival, according to Deadline.com. They'll become the first dual winners of the festival's American Riviera Award, which recognizes influential actors. "Boyhood," a family drama filmed over the course of more than a decade, has been on an awards roll lately, scooping up wins from critics' groups in New York, Los Angeles, Boston and Washington, D.C.

THE MOVIE "I Am Michael"
THE DEAL Justin Kelly's drama about a gay-rights activist (Franco) who renounces his homosexuality and becomes a Christian minister will premiere at next year's Sundance Film Festival, Variety reports. It's one of the festival's 16 announced premiere screenings, which include "Don Verdean," the latest from filmmaker Jared Hess ("Napoleon Dynamite"); "The End of the Tour," starring Jesse Eisenberg as novelist David Foster Wallace; "Mistress America," the latest collaboration between actress Greta Gerwig and director Noah Baumbach ("Frances Ha"); and "Sleeping With Other People," starring Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie as chronic cheaters. The Sundance festival runs Jan. 22 through Feb. 1.

THE DEAL The star of "Dumb and Dumber To" is in talks to play former Apple chief executive John Scully in an upcoming movie about Steve Jobs, TheWrap.com reports. The film, starring Michael Fassbender as Jobs, will be written by Aaron Sorkin and co-produced by Scott Rudin, both of whom work with Daniels on their HBO series "The Newsroom." The director is Danny Boyle, of "127 Hours." Daniels also is set to appear with Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain in "The Martian," ascience-fiction film directed by Ridley Scott.
