THE MOVIE "Time Out of Mind"

THE DEAL Richard Gere steps out of his comfort zone to play George, a homeless New York City man, in this drama by Oren Moverman ("Rampart"). Jena Malone plays George's estranged daughter, while Ben Vereen stars as a down-and-out jazz musician. Variety called Gere's performance "remarkable . . . he appears to have purged every trace of actorly vanity or self-consciousness." Some scenes of Gere begging real New Yorkers for change were filmed in secret.
