THE DEAL Richard Gere steps out of his comfort zone to play George, a homeless New York City man, in this drama by Oren Moverman ("Rampart"). Jena Malone plays George's estranged daughter, while Ben Vereen stars as a down-and-out jazz musician. Variety called Gere's performance "remarkable . . . he appears to have purged every trace of actorly vanity or self-consciousness." Some scenes of Gere begging real New Yorkers for change were filmed in secret.

Well, he still is famous after all, and his new movie could spark a potential bidding war at the Toronto International Film Festival, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film stars LaBeouf as a former Marine searching for his wife (Kate Mara) and child in a post-apocalyptic America. The director is Dito Montiel, an independent filmmaker known for drawing big-name talent like Channing Tatum, Robin Williams and Robert Downey Jr.

THE DEAL The singer-turned-actor, last seen as the Daddy Warbucks figure in "Annie," is in talks to join a new action film, Deadline.com reports. Foxx would play a crime boss who coerces a young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) into working for him. The cast also includes Lily James, of Disney's live-action "Cinderella." The writer-director is Edgar Wright, whose credits include "The World's End" and "Shaun of the Dead."
