THE MOVIE “Hitman’s Bodyguard”
THE DEAL The Mexican-born actress has joined the cast of an action film that stars Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson, Deadline.com reports. Those two play a bodyguard and a former hit man, respectively, who must overcome mutual loathing to battle an Eastern European dictator (Gary Oldman). Production on the film, directed by Jeff Wadlow, is slated to begin April 2 in London.

THE DEAL The director of “Selma” has been tapped to helm Disney’s adaptation of the classic Madeleine L’Engle science-fiction novel, according to Variety. The screenplay is by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, the writer-directors of “Frozen.” DuVernay, the rare black female director in Hollywood, is also a candidate to direct the sci-fi thriller “Intelligent Life” for Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners production company.

THE DEAL Long Island filmmaker Elke Blasi will host a red-carpet premiere this weekend of her new horror film about a group of friends who suffer terrible misfortune after one tries to return-dial a mysterious phone call. The movie was shot almost entirely on Long Island and used many local actors. Blasi says it is being distributed overseas and may have a domestic release as well.
