Avril Lavigne's 'Goodbye Lullaby' a mess
Avril Lavigne's "Goodbye Lullaby" (RCA) is a mess. Sometimes she hits the target, as she does with the peppy first single, "What the Hell." But more often than not, she misses - generally with ridiculous lyrics that would sound childish from a 16-year-old, much less a 26-year-old fashion-and-perfume magnate like herself.
There's bratty talk about drunken blackouts in the expletive-filled "Smile." There's vaguely rebellious reasons for a relationship in "I Love You."
There's so much self-involved nonsense, "Goodbye" can't come fast enough.
AVRIL LAVIGNE: "Goodbye Lullaby"
Grade: C
Bottom Line: Regressing more than rocking
