Best Coast's 'Crazy for You'
It's hard not to get all swoony about Best Coast's "Crazy for You" (Mexican Summer), with its studied lo-fi simplicity and laid-back California cool.
After all, singer Bethany Cosentino welds pieces of Neko Case and Jenny Lewis and Ronnie Spector and Debbie Harry and seemingly every other indie-rock crush object of the past decade as she aches through the '60s-drenched "When I'm With You" and flirts her way through "Summer Mood."
No heavy lifting here - just pretty harmonies layered on lighthearted melodies and sweet-sounding, stripped-down rock. Nothing wrong with that.
