Billy Joel’s ‘The Stranger’ gets vinyl picture-disc revamp by Brookvale Records
Brookvale Records CEO-President Karl Groeger Jr. always thought that Billy Joel’s album “The Stranger” needed a special vinyl edition.
“It is just on regular black vinyl,” said Groeger. “We knew the 40th anniversary was coming up, so we submitted a proposal to Sony to license the record.”
Sony approved the West Babylon-based indie label’s proposal for a picture disc featuring the album’s original cover on Side A of the vinyl album and its original back cover on Side B, also deciding to remaster it so the audio quality doesn’t change on the disc.
Though the picture disc won’t be ready for the album’s official 40th anniversary on Sept. 29, it will be available through Brookvale Records and at Groeger’s record store, Looney Tunes, on Oct. 20.
It’s part of a busy year for Brookvale Records, which has already released five records in 2017 and has three more albums set after “The Stranger,” including a new album from DMC and the vinyl version of the “Skyfall” soundtrack.
“We’ve always wanted to do something with Billy Joel,” Groeger says. “We’re so proud to be putting out this record.”
“The Stranger” picture disc can be pre-ordered at brookvalerecords.com or at Looney Tunes, 31 Brookvale Ave., West Babylon.
