David Byrne’s ‘American Utopia’ tour ending with 2 NYC shows

David Byrne plans to wrap up his massive “American Utopia” world tour with two New York shows, at Forest Hills Stadium on Sept. 15 and Kings Theatre in Brooklyn on Sept. 17.

Byrne says the tour, which features a 12-piece backing band and will cover his solo work and with Talking Heads, is “the most ambitious show I’ve done since the ones that were filmed for ‘Stop Making Sense.’”

The “American Utopia” album, which hits stores on Friday, merits the elaborate treatment, as Byrne tackles a wide range of musical styles and ideas on the collection from a variety of viewpoints, including imagining a chicken’s view of heaven, a bullet’s role in a shooting and a dog’s view of political intrigue.

Byrne’s Forest Hills show will mark his first return to the stadium since the “Stop Making Sense” tour in 1983.
