David Duchovny has a 'Highwater' year with new album

'X-Files" star David Duchovny entered alien territory earlier this year with the release of his first novel, "Holy Cow." Now he's embarking on another new career -- recording artist -- with the release of his first album, "Hell or Highwater," on May 12. And still to come is his new NBC series "Aquarius," which debuts May 28, and Fox's "X-Files" reboot.

Even though 2015 isn't even at the halfway mark, it's shaping up as the Year of Duchovny, thanks to these four projects.

'HOLY COW' -- Duchovny's imagination runs wild in his first foray as an author with this tale of a cow named Elsie Bovary who leaves a farm in upstate New York in search of greener pastures. Joining Elsie on her journey are Shalom, a crusty pig formerly named Jerry who is a recent convert to Judaism who reads the Torah, and Tom, a turkey who can't fly, but can work an iPhone using his beak.

'HELL OR HIGHWATER' -- After penning a novel, Duchovny then turned to writing songs -- 12 in all -- on this album, which veers toward alt rock and indie folk. The title track, which came out on iTunes at the end of March, is an unrepentant love song with lyrics like "I said I'd love you forever, come hell or high water. Baby, the flood's in."

'AQUARIUS' -- The City of Angels in 1967 is the setting for this new crime drama that stars Duchovny as World War II hero turned L.A. homicide detective Sam Hodiak. In addition to kicking some butt while tracking criminals, Hodiak also butts heads with the young, long-haired undercover vice cop he's been partnered with.

'THE X-FILES' -- This reboot of the Emmy-winning '90s series that made Duchovny a star won't actually air until next year, but will begin shooting this summer. The show, which will return as a six-episode limited series, will also feature the return of Gillian Anderson as Scully and Mitch Pileggi as Agent Skinner. Not much else has been revealed about the show, but fans are "X"-static.
