Idina Menzel to sing National Anthem at Super Bowl XLIX

Long Island native Idina Menzel will make her Super Bowl debut by singing the National Anthem at the big game on Feb. 1, the NFL announced Thursday.

Menzel, a graduate of Syosset High School, is best known for lending her voice to Disney's "Frozen" and the animated movie's hit song, "Let It Go." She performed the song live on New Year's Eve in Times Square as part of "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" special. She earned rave reviews for her starring role in the Broadway production "If/then," closing in March.

The NFL also said Thursday that John Legend will sing "America the Beautiful." It was revealed previously that Katy Perry will perform the halftime show.

Menzel reacted to the news Friday morning on Twitter, posting, "It was 1991 and I remeber it well: Whitney [Houston] sings the national anthem at the Super Bowl. Almost as glorious as her voice was her huge radiant smile. I am so humbled and honored to be asked this year."
