What really goes on behind the scenes at "American Idol"?

You may recall how Milwaukee news outlets in early May 2009 began leaking detailed plans for "Danny Gokey Day" before the "Idol" contestant actually landed in the show's Top 3.

Well, on Tuesday, the Chattanooga Times Free Press wrote that Karen Alayne, whom they called finalist Lauren Alaina's vocal coach, "appeared before the Chattanooga City Council today and said the young singer will throw a benefit concert for storm victims on May 14 . . . there will be a parade to start the event and the concert is tentatively scheduled for Coolidge Park."

Interesting, since that's the same weekend that "Idol's" final three will make hometown visits and have parades thrown in their honor.

After Alayne's statement, eyebrows went up across the nation, since five finalists remained. Then, the backpedaling began. WTVC/9, the local ABC affiliate in Chattanooga, said it "spoke to 'American Idol' public relations," which said Lauren's presence "would depend upon the young singer from Rossville, Ga., making it into the Top 3." Meanwhile, The Chattanoogan reported that "Officials said the May 14 event will go forward -- even in the unlikely event that the local favorite does not make it to the Top 3."

Even though Fanfare goes to press before Thursday's results show, we're betting you'll be seeing Alaina in next week's Top 4.
