Jones Beach Theater renovation will add new food vendors, seats, more
The stage might be dark at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater, but the construction lights will soon be turned on as the Wantagh venue gets a face-lift.
Renovations at the outdoor amphitheater were announced during a news conference Friday and will take place over the next four years, with changes coming as early as next summer.
"This reconstruction is the latest example of our commitment to restore Jones Beach to its historic grandeur,” said Erik Kulleseid, New York State Parks commissioner. “For 70 years, Jones Beach Theater has been the go-to place for world class musical performances in an unparalleled setting. There is nothing like this place.”
The renovations will include an illuminated grand entryway as well as new seats for the promenade section. For weather purposes, a new sea wall will be constructed to protect the theater from high tides. The entire venue is getting new energy efficient LED lighting and solar power lighting.
All current restrooms are set to be upgraded, and 20% more facilities are set to be added. Additionally, new local food and beverage options are coming to the concessions area.
“The energy of the fans in this community is like none other. There is no venue in our entire portfolio like Jones Beach,” said Tom See, chief operating officer of Live Nation Venues. “This is why we are making this significant investment to ensure that the concertgoing experience at Jones Beach is world class forevermore."
No price tag for the renovations was disclosed. The project is partnership between the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation and Live Nation.
Construction will start this month, and the project will be done in stages. Long Islanders will notice some differences starting next concert season.
"When we open the gates for next summer, there will definitely be transitions that will have taken place,” See said. “It's still a work in progress and we are finalizing the details now. We are working with the Parks Commission to make sure the aesthetics keep to the theme of Jones Beach.”
