LI bands like Bayside are Bamboozle's new generation
Even with bands like Taking Back Sunday graduating to headliner status at The Bamboozle, the festival's director John D'Esposito says Long Island still has plenty of new bands left to discover at his daylong concerts.
"A lot of our [artists and repertoire] is done at The Crazy Donkey and the Vibe Lounge and the scene that's supported there," he says, adding that many of this year's Bamboozle acts are part of a new Long Island generation.
Here are some of his picks from the area for the festival:
Bayside - Anthony Raneri and the guys have been on the nationwide Bamboozle tour for the past month, supporting their excellent "Shudder" album. They are set to play the music of NOFX at Friday's Hoodwink festival and the main festival Saturday.
Dr. Acula - The hard-core death-metal rockers will take a break from working on their third album, due this summer, to play Webster Hall Friday and the festival Saturday.
Lights Resolve - The power-pop trio from Lawrence has already played arenas, including a slot opening for Dashboard Confessional last winter, even before rolling out a full debut album. (Sunday)
Patent Pending - L.I.'s favorite pop-punks will play their metal epic "M.C. Hammer Is Playing the Bamboozle" in its natural habitat Sunday and hopefully some tracks from their new album due this summer.
Push Play - Power-popsters in the running for Radio Disney's Next Big Thing and their own reality show play Sunday.
Stereo Skyline - The power-pop trio from East Meadow is set to play songs from its eponymous EP, including the Motion City Soundtrack-ish "Heartbeat." (Saturday)
This Is Hell - The Levittown-based hard-core rockers will roar through songs from last year's "Remnants" album Sunday.
Vision of Disorder - The reunited metalcore pioneers have been working on a new album - in between their own separate projects, including singer Tim Williams and guitarist Mike Kennedy's other band Bloodsimple - that they hopefully will preview a bit Sunday.
