Monkees to tour: band announces 12 dates

The Monkees are getting back on the road, playing their first shows since Davy Jones died in February.
Michael Nesmith, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork announced Wednesday that the '60s teen idols will begin a 12-date tour in November. The trio will play the Paramount in Huntington on Dec. 1 and wrap up the tour at the Beacon Theatre in Manhattan on Dec. 2.
The shows will feature the hits -- "Last Train to Clarksville," "I'm a Believer" -- as well as lesser-known cuts and songs from the band's cult film, "Head." There will also be a multimedia component, with rare footage and photographs.
Jones, who died of a heart attack on Feb. 29 at 66, will feature largely into the multimedia content, according to a statement from Rhino Records.
This is the first U.S. Monkees tour that Nesmith will go out on since 1969. He has reunited with the group over the years for a few shows -- his last stateside concert with the band was a private performance in support of 1997's "Justus" album.
"I never really left," Nesmith told Rolling Stone via email Wednesday. "It is a part of my youth that is always active in my thought and part of my overall work as an artist. It stays in a special place, but like things in the past it fades in and out in relevance to activities that are current. Getting together with old friends and acquaintances can be very stimulating and fun and even inspiring to me."
