Is Justin Timberlake reteaming with *NSync at the MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday?

News reports Tuesday said singer-actor Timberlake and the other former members of the late-'90s/early '00s boy band -- Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick -- would reunite for a performance at the VMAs. Their appearance onstage at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn would be one of the group's rare one-off reunions since disbanding in 2002.

Us Weekly reported that the show's producers were "trying to make it happen" and that a reunion performance was "coming together." An MTV network spokesman told Newsday, "We have no comment. Not sure where Us Weekly is getting its 'source.' "

Timberlake's spokeswoman did not respond to a Newsday request for comment.

The group's last televised performance was a Bee Gees tribute medley at the 2003 Grammy Awards. Its last public performance came the following year, when *NSync sang "The Star Spangled Banner" at the annual benefit basketball game for Challenge for the Children, a charity the band founded in 1999.

MTV said last week that Timberlake, who is nominated for six awards -- including Video of the Year for "Mirrors" -- is scheduled to receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award for his "pioneering and innovative impact" on music videos.

In other VMA news, MTV announced Tuesday that Katy Perry will close the show with her song "Roar" from an undisclosed location in Brooklyn.
